Description

The Waterford Hearth Micro-Cuvée stands out as an exceptional release from Waterford Distillery, renowned for its terroir-driven approach to whisky making. As part of the Micro-Cuvée series, this Irish single malt highlights the distillery’s experiments with various barleys, influenced by different soils and climates.

Each batch, crafted from a select blend of barleys from individual farms, dives deep into the unique impact of local terroirs. The whisky matures in diverse casks, developing a complex flavor profile that combines the natural sweetness of malt with notes of fruit, spice, and a distinct earthiness. Furthermore, this particular bottle is a distillery exclusive, which we brought home after a memorable visit to the distillery on August 10, 2022.

Tasting Notes:

  • Appearance: Sunkissed orange with legs and oils that remind me of rain on a window pane of a winters day.
  • Nose: Apricot, sultanas, maple syrup on pancakes, candied apples, sage and thyme, mince pie, digestive biscuits and butter, warm hay, dried flowers.
  • Taste: White pepper, spicy, grapefruit, sweet and sour, chilly flakes, root vegetables, chewable, dryness, orange zest, coco, slightly malt vinegar & salt, cough sweets.
  • Finish: A spice heat that dry’s in the middle then is mouth-watering and chewy.
