Description
The modern Glendullan distillery, part of Diageo’s portfolio, was built in 1972 next to the original distillery, which had been operational since the late 1890s. This older distillery gained royal recognition in 1902 when its whisky was favored by King Edward VII. The two distilleries operated simultaneously until 1985, when the original facility was converted into a workshop for distillery engineers. During this period, malt from both distilleries was blended together, a practice that is no longer allowed.
Historically, official Glendullan bottlings included a 12-year-old in the now-discontinued Flora and Fauna range and a few older, cask-strength editions from the Rare Malt series. Recently, Scotland’s oldest independent bottler, Cadenhead’s, released a special Glendullan bottling. This 19-year-old whisky, produced from two bourbon hogsheads, is a small batch release with only 480 bottles available worldwide. It is bottled at a strength of 53.4% ABV.
