Wolfburn Distillery
Wolfburn Distillery, situated in Thurso, Caithness, Scotland, boasts a rich history dating back to 1821. William Smith founded the original distillery near the Wolf Burn stream, from which it draws its name. Initially, it quickly became the largest producer of malt whisky in Caithness, producing impressive volumes of spirit annually. However, production ceased in the late 19th century, and the distillery fell into ruins.
In 2013, a private consortium revitalized the distillery, building a new facility just 350 meters from the original site. This modern incarnation of Wolfburn draws its water from the same Wolf Burn stream, maintaining a historical connection. The distillery produces a range of single malt whiskies, including the Aurora and Morven expressions. These whiskies are known for their smooth character, achieved through long fermentation and slow distillation processes, followed by maturation in hand-selected oak casks.
Wolfburn’s whiskies are non-chill filtered and naturally colored, ensuring they retain their pure and authentic flavors. The distillery has gained international recognition, winning multiple gold medals in whisky competitions. Visitors to Wolfburn can explore the distillery through guided tours, offering a deep dive into the whisky-making process and tastings of their award-winning spirits.
