Midleton Distillery
Midleton Distillery, located in County Cork, Ireland, is one of the most significant and advanced distilleries in the country. Established in 1975, the distillery was built to consolidate the production of several distilleries under the newly formed Irish Distillers group. This site includes the historic Old Midleton Distillery, which operated from 1825 to 1975 and now functions as a heritage center and museum, as well as the modern New Midleton Distillery.
The New Midleton Distillery produces a wide range of well-known Irish whiskeys, including Jameson, Redbreast, Powers, and Midleton Very Rare. It features both pot stills for producing single pot still whiskey and column stills for grain whiskey, with a combined production capacity of nearly 100 million liters annually. This dual distillery setup allows for complete control over the ingredients used in their blended and single pot still whiskeys. Additionally, the distillery has a micro-distillery for experimental projects and small-batch production, contributing to the innovative Method & Madness range.
The distillery’s maturation process involves extensive warehousing, currently holding over 1.4 million barrels. The site continuously expands its storage capacity to accommodate the growing production needs. Midleton’s comprehensive visitor experience, known as the Jameson Experience, offers guided tours that explore the history, production, and tasting of their whiskeys. This includes a visit to the world’s largest pot still, located in the Old Midleton Distillery, which highlights the rich heritage and craftsmanship of Irish whiskey production.
