Mackmyra Distillery

Mackmyra Distillery, situated in Gävle, Sweden, has been a notable producer of single malt whisky since 1999. Established by a group of friends from the Royal Institute of Technology, Mackmyra quickly gained attention for its innovative approach to whisky production. The Gravity Distillery, completed in 2011, exemplifies this innovation. This seven-story facility uses gravity to power many of its processes, reducing energy consumption by 45% compared to traditional distilleries. The design emphasizes environmental sustainability, utilizing renewable energy sources and a biofuel plant for heating.

Mackmyra’s whiskies are distinguished by their use of Swedish oak and small, 30-liter casks, which accelerate the aging process and enhance the flavor complexity. Their standard offerings include Brukswhisky, Svensk Rök, and various limited editions like the Preludium and Moment series. These expressions reflect Mackmyra’s commitment to quality and innovation, featuring different cask finishes and local ingredients such as juniper and peat.

The distillery also provides a comprehensive visitor experience, featuring a rooftop bar with panoramic views of the surrounding forest.
