Macallan Distillery

The Macallan Distillery in Speyside, Scotland, has crafted exceptional single malt Scotch whisky since 1824. Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and school teacher, founded the distillery, which originally bore the name “Maghellan.” The distillery’s commitment to quality and rich heritage have made it a leader in the whisky industry.

The Macallan stands out for its focus on oak casks. The distillery sources oak from northern Spain, where trees are felled, air-dried, and seasoned for 18 months. This process ensures that up to 80% of the whisky’s character comes from the casks, imparting a natural color and complex flavor. The use of small copper stills and precise distillation further enhance the whisky’s distinct qualities.

In 2018, The Macallan opened a new distillery designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners. This facility merges traditional craftsmanship with modern innovation. It features 36 copper stills in three circular pods. The distillery offers an immersive visitor experience with interactive exhibits that highlight the Six Pillars of The Macallan’s ethos, including a commitment to quality, heritage, and sustainability.
