Long Pond Distillery

Long Pond Distillery, located in Clark’s Town, Trelawny, Jamaica, has a storied history dating back to the 18th century. Known for producing high-ester, funky Jamaican rums, the distillery creates bold, aromatic profiles celebrated worldwide. Established in 1753, Long Pond has faced various challenges, including ownership changes and periods of closure.

The distillery experienced significant disruptions in recent years. It closed in 2012 due to leakages in the dunder storage tanks, which required extensive repairs. Although it reopened in 2017, a major fire in 2018 caused substantial damage, especially to the fermentation room. This led to another closure until the facility could be rebuilt. The reconstruction included modernizing the distillery to enhance efficiency and make operations more eco-friendly.

Today, Long Pond Distillery operates under the management of National Rums of Jamaica (NRJ). The company is partly owned by the Jamaican government, Demerara Distillers in Guyana, and Maison Ferrand in France. Long Pond continues to produce its distinctive rums using traditional methods, including muck pits for extended fermentation periods, which contribute to the unique flavors of its rums.

For rum enthusiasts, Long Pond offers both bulk rum for blending and sought-after single cask bottlings by independent bottlers, making it a significant player in the rum world.
