Glen Moray Distillery

Glen Moray Distillery, located in Elgin, Speyside, started as the Elgin West Brewery in 1830. It was converted into a distillery in 1897. Known for its light, smooth single malts, Glen Moray uses water from the River Lossie and local barley. The distillery’s stills are lantern-shaped and heated with steam, contributing to its distinct whisky profile.

Glen Moray has a rich history of innovation. It was the first distillery in Speyside to use white wine barrels for finishing maturation. This tradition of experimenting with different cask finishes continues today, as seen in their Classic and Heritage collections.

In 1923, Macdonald & Muir, owner of Glenmorangie, acquired Glen Moray, renovating and expanding it. The distillery was sold to La Martiniquaise in 2008, significantly increasing production capacity. Glen Moray now produces about 3.3 million liters of whisky annually.
