Dumbarton Distillery

ounded in 1938 by Hiram Walker, Dumbarton Distillery was located in Dumbarton, Scotland, on the banks of the River Leven. Known primarily for producing grain whisky used in blends, Dumbarton also distilled malt whisky under the Inverleven label. The distillery used water from the River Clyde, contributing to the distinct character of its whisky.

Dumbarton’s production capacity was significant, but most of its output went into blends like Ballantine’s. The distillery operated until 2002 and was demolished in 2008. Today, rare bottlings of Dumbarton single grain whisky, such as the 31 Year Old, are highly sought after by collectors. These whiskies offer rich and complex flavors, often matured in ex-bourbon barrels.
