Cardhu Distillery
Founded in 1824 by John Cumming and his wife Helen, Cardhu Distillery is in the heart of Speyside, Scotland. Known for its smooth and well-balanced single malts, Cardhu played a key role in the early days of Johnnie Walker blends. Helen Cumming, a pioneering figure, managed operations and used a red flag to warn neighboring illicit distillers of approaching excise officers.
Cardhu’s core range includes the 12 Year Old, famous for its sweet, malty notes with hints of pear drops and honey. The 15 and 18 Year Old expressions offer richer and more complex flavors. The distillery emphasizes long fermentation times and uses wooden washbacks, which enhance the whisky’s distinctive character. Cardhu also has a visitor center offering tours and tastings, showcasing its rich history and production techniques.
