Beschrijving
This annual release from Springbank embodies true “grain-to-glass” heritage: distilled exclusively from locally grown Bere barley (from Clochkiel Farm, near Campbeltown) and matured for 10 years before bottling at cask strength — 55.2%. The 2025 edition is matured in a blend of 60% ex-bourbon and 40% ex-sherry casks, giving a nuanced balance between sweet grain character, sherried depth and the maritime signature typical of Campbeltown whiskies.
This whisky is non-chill filtered and free from added colouring — a pure expression of terroir, time and traditional craftsmanship.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Rich and inviting — expect warm fig-rolls, sweet date syrup, ripe plum and a subtle spicy lift of star anise.
- Palate: A distinctive savoury-umami character emerges: burdock root, shiitake-mushroom earthiness, tamari soy-sauce depth and a hint of liquorice — layered atop Springbank’s characteristic oily, coastal malt backbone.
- Finish: Long, smoky-earthy and slightly brooding — lingering campfire ash, treacle-molasses richness and a sturdy grainy weight carry through to the end.
Overall Character:
Springbank Local Barley 2025 is a whisky that doesn’t shy away from complexity or strength. The Bere barley gives it a unique grain-driven intensity; the bourbon/sherry cask combination brings sweet fruitiness and depth; while the distillery’s Campbeltown signature ensures coastal, oily, slightly maritime notes. The result is a mature, terroir-rich single malt — powerful, distinctive, and deeply characterful.
