Our dream of buying the church didn't come easily. The property was sold through a public bidding process with both open and sealed bids—a nerve-racking experience! Although we submitted the highest bid for the church itself, another candidate placed a bid on both the church and the neighbouring plot of land. We thought our dream was over.
But fate had other plans. The church council did not agree with the intended future use proposed by the other buyers. Then, a year later, the phone rang: were we still interested? Absolutely! In September 2020, the church officially became ours.
Together with our architect, we developed the plans: an additional floor on a steel structure for our home, while the ground floor would become a place dedicated entirely to spirits, tastings and a boutique shop.
