Description
This young single malt from Springbank Distillery is matured exclusively in ex-bourbon barrels and bottled at cask-strength — 100 Proof, which in this case equals 57.1% ABV.
It represents a modern expression of Springbank’s maritime Campbeltown character: raw energy, coastal freshness and classic distillery style — but in a youthful, punchy package.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Bright and lively — expect green apples, a hint of citrus zest, broom-bush, wine-gums and a light mineral character; some maritime freshness hints at sea spray.
- Palate: Full-bodied and robust. Flavours of creamy vanilla and light peat smoke mingle with sweet notes of icing sugar and white chocolate. There’s also subtle earthy or herbal undertone, with impressions of sunflower-seed oil or linseed-oil and a faint vegetal or tomato-plant note, which adds complexity.
- Finish: Long and warming, closing with touches of honey, gentle spice, subtle coastal salinity and soft malt-sweetness — hints of gooseberry or tart fruit brightness add a lively after-taste.
Overall Character:
Springbank 5-Year-Old 100 Proof is a young-but-spirited whisky. It captures the distinctive Campbeltown soul — slightly smoky, maritime, with malty sweetness and coastal minerality — but shows it with youthful vigour and raw distillate energy. It’s ideal for fans of cask-strength Scotch who enjoy a whisky with edge and character, or as an adventurous first dram for getting into Springbank’s style.
